Why Paid Search Works…
Posted on January 24th, 2007 by Simon ChenOk, this week I’m travelling and today I just happen to be sitting in a trendy coffee shop in London. It’s snowing outside. Couldn’t be better.
London is not the technical desert it once was.
This coffee shop is way cool - Benugo.
And when you buy something, they give you 30 min free wireless access. Perfect.
So here I am, trying to send and receive email. Like many of you, I run multiple email addresses (probably because I can’t work out what I want to be when I grow up).
Outlook lets you do this easily enough - but when it comes to actually sending emails, you need to have your wits about you, especially if you use a POP3 account.
Now I’m no technical boffin (as the poor fools who work with me will attest). But I do know enough to be dangerous and I do know that in order to send emails from wireless hotspots - I need something called the outgoing SMTP server details. This is either an IP address or something like “mail.eightblack.com” or similar.
So there I was, hoping in earnest that perhaps when I searched on Google for the details (because I knew the ISP name), that I would find what I was looking for. No joy with any of the organic results.
But the answer was right there. A little text ad, displayed by Google.
This service by the way is an absolute cracker. It’s SMTP.com and what this service does is forward your emails for you. You don’t need to screw around, changing settings every time you travel.
For a measly $22 bucks a year, I’ve saved 3 headaches. My own. And the 2 guys I was about to wake up in Australia and yell at.
Perfect. Go here for more.
