Web 4.0
Posted on January 21st, 2007 by Simon ChenMost websites bore the crap out of me (mine included).
That’s the problem with being in the online industry - you become so critical of the space you play in.
It’s probably true for the industry or job you work in as well.
But think about it. Most websites are the same. Static images. No creativity. No intelligence. No engagement.
That’s why 90% of websites are “scanned” rather than actually read. It’s also why Google makes so much money.
And it’s not as though the technology doesn’t exist to make the “experience” any better.
Seth Godin recently posted this to his blog. The article is spot on. If there’s one article you should print off this week and actually read, it should be this.
I reckon the launch of the Apple iPhone is going to turn the mobile space on it’s head and then kick the shit out of it. If the Big Telco’s aren’t already accruing to spend up big to compete, then more fool them.
I also think that this year, 2007, will see a dramatic shift in the fundamental operation of the basic website. Video and audio are just the beginning…
And don’t think Google won’t play a part in all of this. They will.
