Googles’ next deal…Web Conferencing
Posted on April 22nd, 2007 by Simon ChenThis is something I know a little bit about, having worked for the worlds largest independently held audio, video and web conferencing company, InterCall.
Google’s just announed it has acquired the video conferencing software from Marratech (it hasn’t acquired the company, just the software).
And just a little while ago, Cisco dropped a bombshell by announcing it has acquired WebEx, the largest web conferencing platform in the industry.
Like Googles current business model, there is an enormous amount of business (and even better margins) in the telco world, hence the logical progression from Google the media company to Google the global telecoms company.
Yet another string to its bow. Another step forward in the right direction. Another piece of the puzzle put in place.
The Marratech deal should make every rational telco executive sit up and take note. If Google decides to give this away, like it does with products like GMail, GTalk, and Analytics, it will scare the absolute shit out of them.
Good. Now we might get somewhere.
