Google Radio Stumbles…
Posted on February 12th, 2007 by Simon ChenThis story broke last week over at Paid Content.
Google acquired dMarc last year and the signals were clear by this deal that the internet giant was wading into the traditional media space in earnest.
The 2 founders of dMarc, brothers Chad and Ryan Steelberg could have potentially earned over a billion dollars in performance fees (on top of the $100 million in cash they were paid to actually do the deal).
The deal obviously went pear shaped somewhere along the line as the brothers walked last week, apparently content with the US$100 million in the bank rather than the potential $1 billion in the future.
Not everything Google touches turns to gold and the traditional space of TV and radio (like print) is going to be one tough nut to crack. There’s a lot at stake and more than enough “old school” thinking to not want an internet upstart to come in and ruin what insiders would believe is a perfectly working model.
A good buddy of mine, Richie Biggins left the Australian Radio Network (ARN) this Christmas.
Standby for an interview with him on what he thinks the future holds for radio advertising.
More on dMarc here.
