Yahoo isn't able to match Google chiefly because of an image problem: people see Yahoo as a portal and email site, rather than a search engine. The opposite is true for Google, most visitors to Google use it for search and not mail. But take a look at Live.com. It has been steadily moving up in the rankings ever since Microsoft added Hotmail and other things to its roster. I personally like it so much that I stopped using Google. And besides, they are getting arrogant and evil. Microsoft used to be more evil, but they've mellowed out due to all the anti-trust lawsuits. Google needs to be whacked on its head few times, which probably won't happen for years to come. Yes, we do need another search engine to compete with Google. It does not look good for Yahoo. I wish the would as you say clean up their act and "focus". I believe that we need another search giant to balance things out for the lowly publishers.
