Yahoo!’s Top 20 Mistakes
Posted on October 19th, 2006 by Simon ChenI can’t believe how many “big” sites, owned by companies with plenty of resource still get basic web usability wrong.
For example, a lot of people (like me) simply type the URL into the browser and omit the “www”.
So, you can use any browser (and make sure your web team design your site to operate in all browser environments) and just type blog.eightblack.com or even eightblack.com, and you will reach us.
It’s simple really. And easy to do.
But if your web team are just plain lazy and don’t code your site for this, many people will get a blank page with a “site does not exist” message.
Don’t go out of your way to piss web visitors off.
That’s why you should also take note of this list, recently compiled by Yahoo!
Like most search engines, Yahoo is able to detect misspelled words and, in many cases, will suggest an alternative, more accurate, spelling.
“Thanks to our advanced computerised technology, we can catch most of your mistakes and provide you with the correct result,” said Yahoo in the blog statement.
Yahoo’s findings confirm by implication what many have suspected for some time: that the internet has fostered carelessness in written expression.
