What’s The Next Move For Google? Music…

Posted on May 25th, 2006 by Simon Chen

The folks at Google must be watching the progress of Mr Jobs & Co and wondering how they can get a piece of that sweet apple pie.

I believe that Googles next major vertical will be music.

In their eyes, they’re simply leaving money on the table by not offering song downloads when relevant terms are searched.

You only need to look at the amount of search traffic which surrounds celebrities and in particular musical groups. This means that Google has a lot of eye balls on their sites looking for music and music related content - It’s only logical that Google provide a ‘download’ service for music…

Watch this space - Google Tunes? or Google Music?

    1. Sam Says:

Owning the media seems to be the be the path of least resistance to owning the masses (when you control what an individual reads, listens to, and watches, do you not hold massive control that individual? i think so), however I think Google are looking forward, not back.

The next battle to be won is video, audio seems to have gone to Apple. It makes sense for Google to get into music, but I think it will not occur in the near future. In fact, in the end, if they are able to strike an arrangement with Apple (IF) then don’t they gain an edge over Yahoo and Microsoft anyway?
