Turning Japanese
Posted on October 23rd, 2006 by Simon ChenAccording to PC World, YouTube has deleted close to 30,000 video files after a consortium of Japanese media entities representing musicians and artists filed an official complaint.
30,000 files sounds like a lot. But put it into perspective - back in June this year, users were posting up to 50,000 video files a day!
I don’t think Google will ask for their money back just yet. And I really do think the whole copyright issue is going to come to a big crescendo, there will be a lot of arm waving and empty threats and then it will all go away.
This is not a repeat of Napster Mark One. I don’t see YouTube being killed by lawyers. For one thing, it’s way too big now and has too much traction.
YouTube also has something that Shawn Fanning of Napster didn’t. Ten billion dollars in cash, the world’s smartest search company and arguably the most agro lawyers money can hire.
