The Gap Widens…
Posted on August 8th, 2006 by Simon ChenI dont think you should use forums like these to write about your kids.
But this is an exception I’m going to make once. Just to prove a point.
I have a 5 year old son. I think he’s pretty normal. His mother might disagree.
Just recently, he’s taken to saying “Just Google it…”
He’s infatuated with those moronic power rangers and tells me to help him search for them on Google. He’ll sit in front of the iMac for hours playing online games.
Either that, or he’s trying to hack into someone’s bank account in Switzerland or chatting to some girl called “Amber” or “Tiffany” half way across the world.
But I noticed quite quickly that he doesn’t say “Hey Dad, lets MSN it, or lets Yahoo! it”
Because Google has become a part of the community’s DNA.
And now it’s a part of a 5 year old’s. He know’s exactly what he wants. And he knows Google can supply it.
Hitwise just released search stats and Google is now running at 60% volume of all search in the US. My guess is it’s pretty much the same in Asia and Europe.
So tell me again, how is Yahoo! and MSN going to tackle this climbing figure?
Because even a 5 year old has worked out what’s what in the search jungle.
To him, Google IS search. Period.
