New Google Feature…
Posted on December 7th, 2006 by Simon ChenWe’ve been adding a couple of enhancements to our blog lately.
My view is that you shouldn’t just add technology without it being practical and making sense.
A lot of people in the technology space assume that their audience is on the same wavelength (and I’ve been guilty of this, and probably don’t even regard myself as a technologist).
A recent post by David from our office was the most commented on, most read post in our blog’s short history. Our traffic jumped from a very modest amount to over 8,000 impressions in a single day.
Our latest addition to the blog is a cool Google Search Interface (uses the Google AJAX API) for those who want to know and is free of advertising (ie no Adsense or Adwords ads).
Just hold your mouse over any of the posts or links and you’ll not only see the SNAP! preview tool in action, but you’ll see the Google search tool working (if there are other posts related to the one you’re reading, then they will be displayed).
The usability enhancements are there because I’m a big believer that we “scan” versus read online (no secret there) but tools like SNAP and the Google AJAX API allow you to quickly glance at the content on the ONE page, rather than going off into the “ether”.
More importantly, this feature was installed by our lead programmer - who’s all of 21!
Yet further evidence that age is no barrier when it comes to the web and why older folks like me are destined to grovel to the young for a long time to come.
