MSN addicts get paid for advertising

Recently Simon has posted about the use of MSN and how it is being used in varying ways by the different generations. I noticed this article today talking about a firm in China who are rewarding heavy users of MSN with credits to use in the advertisers online shop.

I would have to agree with Simon Burns that it is a fantastic and untapped way to reach users on the already advertising heavy messenger platform. The basics are that users earn points for having the advertisement displayed in their name and the longer it’s active, the more points they earn. However, the medium is slightly flawed as MSN does not yet allow clickable text in the username, so a ‘friend’ would have to open a browser and physically type in the advertisers URL. This may sound like a small issue, but as the dominance of search advertising, contextual advertising and portal sites is showing - users want instant gratification, by clicking their way through to find their desired information.

One of the keys to being successful online is to make your information easy to find and easy to share…
