Google’s Not A Portal (Yeah, Right…)

Posted on May 25th, 2006 by Simon Chen

Google’s CEO Eric Schmidt on CNBC tells us why Google isn’t really a portal.

The interview is in 2 parts. Part 1 & Part 2.

So, if the world’s number one technology company isn’t a portal then, what do you call it when you’re;

  • the world’s number one search provider but
  • you’re buying on average one company per week
  • you’re getting into video
  • providing free email
  • into mapping
  • pushing hard to put the world’s published works online
  • developed an online shopping capability (froogle)
  • powering the blog space (blogger.com)
  • developing a mobile play with Google SMS
  • developing easy web publishing capabilities with “page creator”
  • have amassed and built the world’s largest PC network
  • etc

I dont know about you, but this sounds like a portal to me.
