Google Idol Part 2
Posted on August 8th, 2006 by Simon ChenThere’s a lot happening in the world of online video lately.
Seth Godin predicted that just last week, more content for “broadcast” was created for YouTube last week than by all the TV networks, combined. And he thinks it’s only going to increase.
I agree.
Closer to home there’s a site that’s quietly causing an online revolution - both in terms of traffic and global reach. And it’s all about consumer generated video content.
It’s so well regarded by Google that they have a link off their video blog to the site.
More importantly, the site was created in someone’s spare time and sort of grew beyond what was ever expected.
It’s still a “part time” site.
I’m referring to the site by Ben Petro - Google Idol
I spoke with Ben today and was so impressed by his enthusiasm and his passion that it got me thinking about the critical elements to any great site - the owners enthusiasm and passion for driving the site forward.
I could tell that Ben was trying to perform a “Lexus” on Gidol - and that’s the continual strive for perfection.
Is it attainable? I’m not sure.
But he and his team are getting close.
I’m excited by the project we’re working on with Gidol and if you want to find out more, you’ll have to wait just a little while longer.
I’ll give you a hint though - it might have something to do with 2 very clever guys out of the UK who appeared on Gidol recently and a major airline and travel site.
Stay tuned.
