Google Adwords Click-To-Call

Posted on November 28th, 2006 by David Galt

The Google train is steaming along full tilt, one of the recent product releases is Click-To-Call which enables advertisers to connect with customers via a new medium (for Adwords anyway) - The Phone!

The process is pretty simple, you search Google like normal and next to some of the Adwords results you will see a little phone icon. I’ll outline here in a few simple steps how it works:

Step 1 - User searches Google & sees an ad similar to below.

Step 2 - User clicks on the phone icon to reveal the below screen.

Step 3 - The user enters their phone number & they’re being connected to the advertiser within 5 seconds.

Step 4 - You’re on the line with the business you were searching for…

It’s a fantastic thing for a business who already has a call centre as there aren’t any additional costs to have what is called a warm lead on the phone. Many traditional bricks and mortar businesses struggle with what to do about online advertising, online sales and online lead generation. Google Click-To-Call gives old school businesses a way to get online without having to even have a website… We’re looking at doing a trial with one of our clients in the near future, I’ll be sure to keep you posted of our experiences.

It is far more advantageous for a traditional business to have a prospect on the phone where they can answer queries about the service/product, make reservations, provide additional information and hopefully make a sale. Some traditional businesses struggle to improve their website enough to make Search Marketing worthwhile, Click-To-Call enables these businesses to test the water so to speak and see if users are searching online for their products/services.

These same businesses do need to make the leap into building better websites which enable prospects to research their products/services online without having to interact directly with the business, some people simply don’t like talking on the phone… They just want to read reviews/testimonials and make up their own mind.
