Death of TV Advertising…

Posted on November 13th, 2006 by David Galt

A lot has been written lately about the growth of online advertising outstripping other mediums, I came across an article today that I think spells the end of TV advertising.

The article discusses a new promotion by LG, the product isn’t new, but the promotion that LG weren’t allowed to run is very interesting. The product is essentially an LG plasma with a built-in digi-box allowing users to record, pause & rewind TV in real time - giving users the ability to remove ads from live TV.

Personally, I have a set-top-box in which I have 10 shows pre-programmed, the machine records them without any interaction from me and then I can watch them later (Assuming I’ve left enough space on my hard-drive). I normally get up early to watch the shows I’ve taped and always fast forward the ads, it saves me about 20 minutes for every ‘hour’ of TV… Which puts me in the hard to reach category of 20 somethings with a disposable income - which is where online comes to the fore as I consume most of my media online, as do my friends who are very busy but spend all day online…

Feel free to use the comments section to pass on the ways you are changing your consumption of media - don’t be shy now…

Where do you feel is the best place to advertise now?

      Hi Robert,

I had a good look at your site and think you would be best to further employ some Search Engine Optimisation techniques (you are already doing the basics) and look at PPC advertising for the targeted visitors.

Given your market are so hungry for new information you should start an email marketing program which will keep drawing users back to your site time after time - this requires you to create content, but will be well worth it.
