Brain Drain

Posted on October 7th, 2006 by Simon Chen

I got an email this morning from Anthony Wolf.

He’s the Head of Search for NineMSN, a not altogether insignificant job or position I might add.

Or rather, Anthony used to be the head of search for them.

You see, he’s decided to move on and take up the GM role at Soush, which is a division of Ansearch.

I just dont get it though.

Guys like Anthony dont grow on trees. And I’m sure there are 2 sides to the story, but I am clearly taking his.

You see, as good as an outfit as Soush may be (and the jury is still out on whether or not their local product will make it in the market), Anthony had worked at NineMSN for 6 years.

That’s a lot of knowledge that just walked out the door.

Which, as I said back to him in an email conversation, is their loss and Soushs’ gain.

It’s also interesting in the fact that NineMSN have recently appointed Soush to handle all their online advertising - I’m sure the agreement didn’t include a clause which said “oh, by the way, feel free to poach one of our best staff”.

The War For Talent is clearly on for young and old - none more so than the online space.

But in my humble opinion, the management at MSN were fools to let someone like Anthony go.

The agreement soush and ninemsn have isn’t actually for soush to sell all the online advertising of ninemsn’s - it’s for the contextual ads (so replacing Overture/YSM I take that to mean, but could be wrong there) and for the moment apparently its just across the ninemsn Shopping section..

Just to confirm what the relationship is between ninemsn and Soush - Soush have a 3 month trial to sell ads within the ninemsn shopping section. Yahoo! Search Marketing is still the main partner with ninemsn to provide all its online text advertising.
